HOUSING IN HOUNSLOW
The council needs to make sure that housing growth is balanced and directed into areas that have capacity for change, while protecting and enhancing the social infrastructure. This means securing high quality, sustainable developments that are located appropriately.
The majority of dwellings in the borough are houses and the rest are mainly purpose built flats, with half of the homes being owner-occupied. The Local Plan sets clear guidance and policies on the level of size mix (number of bedrooms), scale and density (number of units per hectare) and internal and external space required for new developments to ensure they meet housing needs.
There are approximately 97,000 homes in Hounslow. Of this 34.9 % are flats and 56.9% Whole house or bungalows. Between 2015 and 2030, over additional homes will be built to meet additional needs. There are currently a number of new housing developments taking place in the borough including:
- Hounslow ( Civic Centre site): 919 new homes.
- Hounslow High Street Quarter: 525 new residential units.
- Brentford Waterside (Brentford Land South of High Street): up to 876 new homes as well a new community and leisure facilities, retail space and anew supermarket. ( Construction commenced)
Prices in Hounslow
In February 2016, homes in Hounslow were sold for an average of £409,062. However, there are significant variations between the high priced east (Chiswick) and the west of the borough which is influenced by Heathrow Airport (Land Registry). According to the Land Registry, the average Hounslow house price in 2015 was £379,010 (an increase of 11.2% compared with the previous year)

LAMPTON ROAD HOUSING (EXISTING CIVIC CENTRE)
The Lampton Road and Civic Centre project is a partnership between Notting Hill Housing and Bouygues Development to build 919 new homes. Building work is due to begin in Summer 2018.
EDUCATION IN HOUNSLOW
The borough has a strong local economy with high rates of employment and entrepreneurship and a highly skilled population. It is one of only 9 local authority areas (out of 152) in the UK where all the schools have been classified as either good or outstanding by Ofsted; it has low economic inactivity levels and a diverse and hard-working population.
PRIMARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOLS
There are 75 state schools in the borough – 8 infant schools, eight junior schools ( two are academies), 15 secondary schools (13 are academies), 4 special schools, 2 all through free schools, two Studio Schools and one pupil referral unit. FURTHER & HIGHER EDUCATION
There is a range of colleges of further education in the local area. Within the borough, West Thames College is a successful college with two sites
- Isleworth campus
- Feltham Skills Centre.
Over 6,500 students from many different backgrounds study with the college each year in a range of subjects including Computing and ICT, Logistics, Media and music as well as A levels, BTECs, HND and foundation and degree level courses.
Richmond upon Thames College, Ealing Hammersmith and West London College are all nearby while Harrow College and Uxbridge colleges are also within traveling distance from the borough.
West London has a thriving higher education sector and of course, central London universities are also within easy reach.
University of West London
The University of West London, based in Brentford, has 8,500 students houses the School of Psychology, Social Care and Human Sciences and College of Nursing, Midwifery and Healthcare. The site also offers 839 single study rooms for students.
Rated as the number 1 modern university in London by the Guardian University League Table, it also has the best graduate employment rate of a modern London university, with 94% of graduates in employment 6 months after graduation.
